Aston Merrygold has admitted his Strictly dream maybe over for good as he prioritises his pregnant girlfriend Sarah Richards over the upcoming Strictly Come Dancing tour.
It’s common for Strictly favourites to go on to star in the UK stage version of the BBC ballroom and talent show, but the JLS star has refused to be drawn into negotiations yet after crashing out of the ballroom and latin competition last week.
Aston told OK! magazine: “If I was asked and it fitted in with what was happening in our lives, I would say yes.
“But Sarah and our baby are my priority now.”
Strictly fans speculated that Aston was strategically voted out to pave a way for Debbie’s path the the final, but he holds no grudges against the late Paul Daniels’s widow and showered praise on fleible Debbie for upping her game “every week”.
He added: “Debbie is incredible, she is improving every week. We were all like: ‘Debbie, calm down – give us a chance!’
“But I don’t believe that. Surely you just want the best dancers in the final?”
Aston also rushed to defend his dance partner Janette Manrara, who was blamed for his departure by Strictly fans who insisted their routine was “vanilla”.
But the singer insisted she is “amazing” and did the best that she could with their Viennese waltz, which offers little room for improvisation.
He said: “People write what they feel on social media without considering others’ feelings. With a Viennese waltz, you are quite limited as there are only six steps. The whole dance is a rotation of a spin. To the untrained eye, it looks the same.
Aston admitted he hasn’t made one friend in the judging panel, though the celebrities and dancers
There’s no personal relationship with the judges. You might pass yet in the corridor on sow day but the only time you speak to them is when you’re being judged. We’ve been through a lot on Strictly. Janette will be a friend for life.”
