The seasoned soap star will play the secretive ”dark” character, Rafael Humphreys, who arrives in Ramsay Street to resolve and confront a issue from his past.
Self-confessed Neighbours fan Ryan said the move will said the part on the show will be a ”new challenge”.
Speaking to The Metro he said: ”I grew up watching Neighbours so to get the chance to join the cast is amazing.”
”I was on holiday with my daughter when I got a phone call from my agent asking if I’d like to play this part…I spoke to the producer and found out more,” he added.
”It was very different from anything I’d played before – it was quite a deep, dark story, that really interested me.”
The actor, who is best known as Corrie’s Jason Grimshaw, quit Coronation Street in June 2016 after playing the role since for sixteen years.
Speaking on the change of character and show, he said: ”It’s a new challenge and I can’t wait to start filming.”
Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor at Channel 5 said on Ryan: ”With his good looks and Corrie years under his belt, Ryan is the perfect handsome devil.”
He added: ”His arrival in Erinsborough marks the start of darker times for a particular Ramsay St favourite.”
