If I had it my way, my hair would be whatever random color comes to mind, but then I think about some of the processes that are involved with turning my natural hair various hues, and I’m like “okay — nah, chill.” But a new product promises rose gold-colored strands with a process that sounds as simple as deep conditioning. Easy at-home color without much of a commitment and no bleach? I’m in.
Overtone is a line of healthy color for healthy hair and just recently added a rose gold shade to their lineup. Applying Overtone Deep Treatment is as easy as applying deep conditioner, but make sure you wear gloves before sectioning your hair and brushing the product on, so as not to stain or irritate your skin. After a few minutes, rinse it out and you’ll have a gorgeous rosy-gold tone without using a stitch of bleach. To keep the color looking vibrant, use the Overtone Daily Conditioner to replenish your new hue.
Now all of this sounds too good to be true even after watching the application videos, so naturally, there are questions that need answers. Like for instance, um — how is this not dye?
Overtone says their product is not a dye but a color-depositing conditioner that gradually replaces the color you use every time you wash your hair. They’re pigmented like a dye, but they don’t contain the harmful chemicals dyes tend to have: no peroxide, ammonia, or heavy alcohols. It’s like a two-for-one deal: gorgeous color deposits and healthy conditioning at the same time. The color will last as long as you keep using the products in the line.
There is one slight catch though — while it works on all hair types, you have to have lighter hair if you want the rose gold to show up. You can use it on bleached hair and it works on your lighter colored human hair wigs and extensions, though. If you have darker hair, Overtone’s Vibrant or Extreme lines might be more up your alley.
The Rose Gold Daily Conditioner is $17, the Rose Gold Deep Treatment is $28, and the Complete System which contains both the Daily Conditioner and Deep Treatment as well as a travel size Daily Conditioner is $45. Right now, the products are on backorder, but you can still reserve your bottles.
