Every true Harry Styles fan remembers the day the beloved Brit singer became significantly less, uh, hairy.
A mere year ago, Styles chopped off his famous mane, which he revealed in a cryptic Instagram. Naturally, the drastic change sent Directioners into quite a tizzy, since Styles’s long hair had become something of a trademark on One Direction’s final tour. This haircut alone marked the former boy bander’s first big change since the band went on hiatus in early 2016. Even though Styles probably could have made a massive profit hocking those locks on the internet (just considering how well some other, ahem, Harry Styles “memorabilia” sold online), it was later revealed that he donated his hair to the Little Princess Trust — a charity that makes real-hair wigs for children with hair loss from cancer treatment.
Styles attempted to keep his haircut hidden after that, but fans managed to capture photos of a hatless Harry on the set of Dunkirk. Spoiler: He still looked great.
But on Tuesday morning, Harry aired a promo for an upcoming film on Apple Music, called Harry Styles: Behind the Album, in which fans can see ACTUAL footage of Styles chopping off his long and, dare we say, perfect hair.
Just last month, during his appearance as co-host on BBC Radio 1, Styles discussed what it was like to chop off all his hair, a move that we now know was done in preparation for his role in Dunkirk. “You had to cut your hair for the movie because the role demanded it,” host Nick Grimshaw asked Styles. “Did you feel like Christian Bale in The Machinist when he had to lose all that weight?”
“Just losin’ the hair? A little bit. I felt very naked for a while.”
He continued, elaborating on if the hair change was a big decision for him.
“No I don’t think so. I was super excited to be involved. I’m a massive fan of his movies and I thought it was a really cool project, and I really wanted to be involved in it. And then I was, like, ‘Oh yeah I have to cut my hair off.’ It wasn’t a big [deal].”
In addition to the infamous haircut, the trailer for the new documentary — which has no release date — also contains footage of Harry recording his new album, Harry Styles, in Jamaica, complete with ocean dives and in-depth interviews.
